Week of September 15th Newsletter

September 12, 2014

It is Friday and I can feel fall in the air.  We are looking forward to meeting as many of you that can come tonight at our 4th Grade Tailgate Party.  In case you forgot (or never received the note from your child) we are providing BBQ chicken sandwiches for students and their families from 5:00-6:30 tonight at the Benton Playground.  Bring something to sit on and an appetite!

Mid-Quarter Progress

Believe it or not, we are already at the half-way point of the quarter.  Today I am sending home mid-quarter progress reports and AR progress reports home with the students.  Please look over them and sign them. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me, send a note with your child, or call me here at the school.  Keep in mind there are not as many grades in the system as there will be the second half of the quarter.  Please have them returned no later than this coming Wednesday.

Next week in math the students will further explore place value and apply extended subtraction and addition while making estimates.

In science Mrs. Widener will be teaching your children how animals use adaptations to survive in their environments.

Next week in reading the students will be learning more about poetry.  We will study how to identify poetry, how it is different from prose, and the various characteristics that make poetry an important form of writing.

Social Studies

In Social Studies we will begin to study famous Missourians.  The students will be assigned a Missourian to research.  Once they complete their research they will create a Power Point presentation to demonstrate what they have learned.
