Week of September 29th Newsletter

September 29, 2014

We are quickly approaching the end of the first quarter.  We have had a great start to the school year and the students have made tremendous progress already this year.  In the very near future I will be sending home notifications about parent teacher conferences.  I’m looking forward to the opportunity to share information about your child’s progress and discuss any questions you may have.

This week in math the students will solve multiplication facts, create a line graph, write multiplication & division number sentences, and read & write large numbers.

In science this week the students will describe how animals interact with their environment.

In reading this week the students will learn more about the narrative elements of fiction.  The students are learning how the characters, setting, and plot influence the story.  The students will also be learning how to determine first and third person point of view in story.

Social Studies

In social studies the students will begin learning about the earliest civilizations in Missouri.  We will study the early Mississippian cultures and their influence in the region.

I will send AR progress reports home later this week to let you know about your child’s progress.  We do have several students who are behind where they should be.  Please help me ensure the students are spending 20-30 of independent reading time each night at home.
