Week of December 1st Newsletter

December 2, 2014

Parents,

I hope all of you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving.  The students should be refreshed and ready for the three week home stretch that will lead us to the Christmas break.  We have a busy week this week and I expect I’ll see most of you on Thursday night, the night of our 4th grade music program.

Math

This week in math the students will estimate sums & products; write numbers in expanded notation; and add multidigit numbers.

Science

In science this week the students will learn about the earth’s natural resources and how they can change.

Social Studies

In social studies the students will continue to learn about Native Americans and the exploration of territories as the U.S. grew.

Reading

The students will review concepts of decoding words, figurative language, and using details to support inferences.

This Week

There are several things going on this week that you need to be aware of. On Wednesday the students will travel to MSSU to watch a play.  We will depart just after 12:30, so the students will eat lunch at 11:45.  We will return to school around 2:50.  Also this week the students have their 4th grade concert.  The concert begins at 6:30, please have the students in my room no sooner than 6:00, but no later than 6:20.  Finally, don’t forget about the various ways we are trying to help families who live in our community.  If you are able, send dry goods or canned items for the Food Basket Brigade.  Also, if you have some spare change lying around, send money for Coins for Cops that will provide funding for the Shop with a Cop program.
