May 4th Newsletter

May 4, 2015

It’s already May and we are closing in on the last few weeks of school.  In a few short weeks school will be out and you will have a middle school student.  (Don’t worry, it’s hard for me to believe too).  We have a lot of activities taking place the last few weeks of school.  So be sure to check your child’s folder for reminders or you can always go to our class web page at and view the upcoming events.

MAP Testing

Yeah! We are finished with MAP testing.  Last week the students completed the ELA, or English Language Arts portion of the MAP test.  We’ve been told we may have testing results by the end of this school year.  I’ll be sure to let you know if the results come back before school is dismissed for the year.

As you can see from the upcoming events listed below, the students only have about two weeks left to meet their AR goals.  Also, please ensure they take some time to read at home over the summer.  Reading and understanding information is such an important part of every subject at school.  Reading shouldn’t stop when AR testing stops.

Social Studies and Reading

This week the students will review finding the main idea in a passage and use primary resources to create a fictional story.  We will study post WWII events and how WWII affected the local area, especially Camp Crowder.

Math and Science

In math the students will estimate weight; describe relationships among metric units; extend numeric patterns; and convert between metric & customary units of mass and weight.  In science the students will study electricity and magnetism.
